I had a teacher who used to say, “if you lie down with dogs you will get fleas, so surround yourself with the best of the best and those who inspire you”. I had no idea at the time how much of a significance this statement would have over my career as a creative.
As you look around there is no shortage of immensely talented designers, but there are a few who truly possess what Susan Mcleary of Passionflower possesses. I met Susan years ago in New York City during a Chapel Designers workshop. Trust me when I say, she is one bad ass designer! Her work has been featured on the cover of Fusion Flowers Magazine and in numerous publications and websites including Modern Wedding Flowers, Style Me Pretty and The Knot. One of her most notable accolades was being chosen as one of Martha Stewart’s finalist in the 2015 ‘American Made’ competition, where she showcased living jewelry. You can purchase her works of wearable art at her Etsy shop.
With coffee in hand, we made our way to Susan’s studio excited to create something beautiful. I loved working together side by side with her and spending the day learning. I’m incredibly hard on myself as a floral designer so working with someone like Susan in a safe open learning environment was positivity therapeutic. The result was truly magical and I’m so thankful to Susan for organizing a photo shoot of our floral play date. Both Amanda Dumouchelle Photography and the stunning model, Alyssa Mata did a remarkable job making the creative creations really shine.
