Can you possibly imagine how thrilled we were to be featured on Green Shoes Wedding blog along with Stella Event Design, Bradley James Photography, MiraBella Confections, Tara Joy Designs, and plenty of other fabulous vendors? What a treat is was to work on this incredibly unique photo shoot featuring a rustic design aesthetic with a contemporary twist. The main color inspirations were jewel tones: sapphire blue, emerald green, rich plum, and bright gold. With this fantastic color palette in mind, we selected the most stunning and funky floral product for the fantastic bouquet, boutonniere, and tablescape, including pincushion protea, viburnum berry, succulents, fiddlehead ferns, artichoke heads, blue thistle, and an assortment of ferns and greens. Thanks again to Stella Event Design and all of the absolutely wonderful vendors that we were lucky to Read More…

Bridesmaid. Bouquets. Peach. Plum. Winter Wedding. Abby Fox Photography. Modern Day Floral and Events.

One of our first weddings this year was a stunning event featuring a warm rich color palette of creamy ivory, sumptious peach, deep plum, and rich mahogany brown. This color combination has quickly becoming one of my favorites!  Brittany and her mother, Faith, were such a pleasure to work with, so as you could imagine I couldn’t wait to share this wedding with you! Special thanks to Abby Fox Photography for capturing the beauty and essence of this winter wedding so perfectly. How ethereal is our bride? Her soft brown locks and dreamy lace sleeves are beautifully feminine and the perfect compliment to her romantic bouquet. Brittany’s bouquet was composed of juliet garden roses, peach hypericum berries, blush pink astilbe, seeded eucalyptus, white ranunculus, ivory sweet pea, and quicksand roses. Our groom, Philip, Read More…

It’s about that time of the year again… Peony are almost back in-season!  These lush little lovelies come in white, pinks, fuschia, red, burgundy, peach, and yellow. Their ruffled layers and sweet aroma create such a romantic look to any bouquet or centerpiece. We thought we’d share in our excitement and anticipation by talking about some of our favorite peony varieties and bouquets today. Photography by Harrison Studio, JK Photography, and Jen Kroll Photography. Pink peony varieties are some of the most popular and beloved flowers for spring and early summer weddings. Their wide range of color from light blush pink, to dark fuchsia, provides so many options for different bouquet looks and styles. Photography by Studio 6.23. Beautiful Flowers. Phalaenopsis Orchids. Garden Roses. Hydrangea. Grand Rapids. Michigan. Cascade Hills Country Club. Studio 6.23 Photography. Modern Day Floral and Events.

Photography by Studio 6.23 I’m often asked what I see as the latest trend in the wedding industry, and I have to admit, it has all become a bit too much.  As an event designer, planner, and most often counselor, I tell our clients that if they stay true to who they are, they are the trend.  There are no two couples alike and remembering what brings you joy and happiness is what you need to share with your guests.  After all, this is a celebration of two lives coming together. Several weeks ago I had a conversation with a peer I deeply admire in the industry and I was amazed to find out that she felt the same way.  It made me wonder how many other people felt like us, and most Read More…

As a wedding and event designer, we often spend nearly a year designing a client’s dream wedding.  With so much time and effort spent with the client, it’s nearly impossible not to develop close relationships with them. This past year we were fortunate enough to design a wedding for one of the most wonderful and loving families we have ever worked with. But here comes the twist… we designed not just one of their daughters’ weddings, but TWO! I can not thank them enough for allowing us to play such a big part in both of their weddings. Jill and Matt’s fall wedding took place at Grand Oaks Banquet Center which is located on the picturesque Thousand Oaks Golf course in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their style was classic romance with natural and whimsical touches. Jill Read More…

One of our absolute favorite flowers is the dahlia. It has a limited season – generally between August and October. However the variety of colors and sizes are incredible. They are the perfect supplement to a peony on the off-season (sometimes even better)! Check out these gorgeous bouquets featuring the one and only, dahlia. Captured by K. Holly Photography This stunning bridal bouquet features a deep garnet-red dahlia. Red majestic calla lilies, cymbidium orchids, red garden roses, scented geranium foliage, schwarzwalder calla lilies, hearty succulents, plum trachelium, and white lisianthus also make this bouquet truly pop! Captured by K. Holly Photography These bright Bridesmaid’s bouquets have the large Arabian Nights dahlias featured along with celosia, roses, calla lilies, hydrangea, and orchids. How awesome is the color variation in that type of dahlia? Captured Read More…

For Modern Day Floral and Events, 2012 was a whirlwind of wedding celebrations and events, expansion and certainly some learning along the way.  We have so much to be thankful for!  Honestly without a hard working team, unbelievable clients, and a strong support network of industry professionals all of this would not have been possible.! We started the year out by settling into our new building located just minutes from downtown.  It took us nearly three long years to find just the right fit for us. Although it needed a lot of TLC, it finally feels like home… it is amazing what a little paint and fresh carpet can do! In February, we were given the distinct honor of creating florals for the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.  We’re excited to bring our modern Read More…

Our post today features one of our most recent December couples, Heidi and David. They both have such a passion for life and were more than ready to share it as husband and wife! Their venue choice of the Sky and Pinnacle Rooms, above the Cygnus Restaurant at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, was perfect for their small, yet intimate wedding. Heidi dreamed of a winter wedding without the typical pinecones, glitter, and stuffiness of a traditional wedding. Both she and David agreed that a celebration that felt more like an upscale dinner party was more fitting for them. On a beautiful, cool December day in Michigan, Heidi and David were wed overlooking the city’s twinkling lights. Thanks so much to Two Ring Photography for capturing their day perfectly! What a happy and beautiful Read More…
