ABOUT US

Welcome All! I am Jenn...

My lifetime dream became a reality with the opening of Modern Day Floral. Everyday I am fortunate enough to work with one of the most beautiful mediums in the world, fresh flowers. I absolutely love what I do and thanks to my brides, vendors, retails customers and special event client, I get to live out my dream daily. I would also like to personally thank my incredible staff for all their hard work and passion... They inspire me daily! Enjoy the blog, visit often and remember, we love "warm fuzzies!"

MEET THE STAFF!

What do you get when you bring a group of passionate and talented people together? Modern Day Floral! These fascinating men and women amaze me everyday with their commitment and love for this business. I think what truly makes our group so special is the diverse backgrounds we come from... From interior to clothing design, retailer and experience floral design... Wow, what a group!

Emily is one of my lead designers - she brings the energy to the group. She has been with me from the beginning and is responsible for the "look" that has become Modern Day Floral! The talent, commitment and positive attitude she brings to work is invaluable. The cup is always 1/2 full... She is my AI in AIFD!

Karen is another of my lead designers - her calm nature, experience and romantic style bring a complimentary element to Modern Day Floral. She is the most amazing Christmas tree decorator and is affectionately known as Miss Christmas :)

Rueben is the newest lead designer to the group! His clean, unique and contemporary styles brings a new flare to Modern Day Floral. He keeps us entertained with his amazing music collection on his iPod!!

Erin brings with her a BFA in interior design from Kendall College of Art and Design and an incredibly passionate type A personality. She is my checks and balances girl with a quest for knowledge. Perspective drawings are definitely her specialty... This girl is going places!

Lauren is our public relations and marketing guru! She brings a fun, spunky energy to our group and isn't afraid to jump into the middle of any task!!

Charlie, Jonathan, Ernie, Aaron and Ryan are the guys of the group (poor souls)! The mere fact that they tolerate all of us for more than 5 minutes is a miracle. Estrogen flows in buckets at Modern Day but believe it or not, we're all a loving family!

Going to the Chapel: Jillian and Chris

The lovely Jillian Telman of In Any Event is getting married next June! We’re beyond excited for her and Chris!! Below you will get to hear about their story of looooove!

jill and chris

Jillian – Event Planner Assistant for In Any Event

Chris – Medical School Student

Tell us about the very first time you two met!

“Oddly enough, we have actually know each other since middle school. We were good friends in high school but didn’t start dating until college. Both of us were going to Michigan State University and would hang out together every weekend because we were in the same circle of friends. I was in the process of trying to find a church to attend while at school and Chris told me I should go with him to his church. I really liked it so we continued to go, just the two of us, on Sunday mornings. Somewhere in between all this, something just changed in our friendship. Between hanging out on weekends and going to church, we began dating. And that was over 4 years ago. Still going strong!”

What is your idea of the perfect date?

“A perfect date would definitely be something easy like dinner and a movie. I know how generic and boring that sounds, but it truly is our favorite thing to do when we go out. We have been long-distance for the past 3 years and only see each other on the weekends, so that’s probably why we prefer something low-key. It allows us to be able to relax and really get in some quality time together. When you don’t get to see each other every day, you really have to make the most of your time together and learn how to milk every minute you get with one another. If we can rent a movie and just stay in, that is even better.”

What is the one thing about your wedding you are the most excited for?

“To have all of our family and friends be there to celebrate the day with us. We have a big group of friends and most of them live out of state so it will be really nice to have everyone with us on our special day. And of course, I can’t wait to see all the decor/design elements come together! Seeing the ballroom for the first time is going to be so much fun. I will probably cry!”

Tell us about your proposal story!

“It was a random Tuesday in April and I was going to work at Modern Day Floral (at the time, I worked part of the week with Jenn at MDF, then the rest of the week with Jodi at In Any Event). Upon my arrival, Jenn told me she needed me to go on a site visit to Gunn Lake for a bride who was getting married outside there. Jenn gave me her camera and told me to take pictures of the property for her, as she wouldn’t be able to go with me. I was instructed to check in with the gal at the front desk so she could give me a tour. When I got there, the lady at the counter immediately have me a room key to the honeymoon suite and said I could get some great shots of the property form the balcony. Not thinking anything of it, I took the key and went to the top floor. When I opened the door to the room, I was completely shocked to find Chris there (who I thought was at school in Toledo), down on one knee, in a room filled with votive candles and rose petals. Too stunned to move, I stood in the doorway for almost an entire minute until Chris finally laughed  and said, “It’s OK, you can come in!” I was in total shock, it was pretty hilarious. And the best part is, after I said yes, I asked Chris if I was still supposed to photography the property for Jenn! He makes fun of me for that to this day. I am way too gullible apparently.

Aftewards, Chris filled me in on how he had contacted Jenn and Jodi several weeks beforehand for their help. So without my knowing, they were busy scheming up the perfect proposal plan behind my back. Jodi and Jenn have been my mentors in the wedding industry, so that made it extra special for me that they got to be involved. Together, all three of them successfully delivered the biggest (and best) surprise of my life!
