Feature Flower Friday: Craspedia

We’ve been using a lot of crasedia lately in the arrangements we’ve been doing, but who can blame us. It’s just SO cute! There’s no other word to describe these adorable little flowers. They are available virtually all year round and usually last about 10-14 days. They mean “good health”. Naturally, they come yellow, however, painting them has become a trend as well. In the following pictures, they have been painted black.

Friday Flower Feature “Protea”

Ladies and gentleman may I present to you the PROTEA!

TA-DA! Fabulous, right? Here we have the King Protea, just one of the many varieties of protea. At Modern Day Floral we tend to favor the pincushion protea but the king was definitely the focal point of this bouquet.

The protea comes in all sizes and colors but is happily one of the top ranking in vase life for cut flowers. Protea like to grow in warm Mediterranean climates and it’s beauty still holds when it is dried. If I were a flower this sounds like a great option…long lasting, lives in warm, tropical places and still beautiful when old!

The sweet pea flower represents blissful pleasure and delicacy. The scent of the sweet pea flower is one of the most fragrant blooms in the flower world and is often replicated for lotions and candles. This annually grown flowers is a climbing plant, meaning when the sweet pea grows it reaches upwards, sometimes up to 2 meters! This beautiful, fragrant flower is extremely delicate but don’t let it’s looks fool you, both the sweet pea flower and seed are poisonous!

This miraculous centerpiece was truly that… Peony in January crazy I know but everything came together for this fabulous event!

The above two images are from our sassy guest blogger Alishan’s wedding last June. We used over 700 peony to create her lush bouquets and centerpieces. We loved this bride so much she has become our “Dear Abby” for our brides. :) Who better to offer advice than a bride who planned for nearly 2 years long distance!

In November we designed a spectacular event and rather than throw all the lovelies away we recreated hand-tied bouquets…95 to be exact! We spent over 2 days redesigning and delivering to area nursing homes. Thanks to the generosity of our client, we were able to pay it forward.

Ranunculus has become a favorite of ours with its “dynamic floral personality” and incredible scent! OK, I’ll just say it right now, I really love tulips. The structure of the flower makes it so modern. Plus, this bloom is a real champion for this time of year! Tulips come in a variety of different styles that create all sort of different textures in arrangements.

One of my favorites is the Parrot Tulip…

it’s unique petal line creates some real sass for all to enjoy!
