We’re movin’ into the Amway Grand Plaza!

You know what they say… Good things come to those who wait, and boy have we been a waitin’. It’s been over a year in the making and (drum roll, please) we are so delighted to announce our new boutique in the Amway Grand Plaza! Yes, that’s right. We’re moving in and calling it home.

The space needs a lot of work, but we are in full blown remodel mode to give this place the sparkle it deserves. Renovations are expected to be complete early May and we can’t wait to reveal Modern Day Floral & Events boutique. Stay tuned for more details including our gorgeous new linens that we are just swooning about over here. We are so excited about all the wonderful opportunities coming our way and we are so thankful for the continual love and support. Can you believe spring is already here? We will be in full blown wedding season before we know it.

Yikes! Has it really been that long since blogged? Yes, yes….we know…

As you may remember, the Amway Grand Plaza put on a beautiful event that we were ever so fortunate to be a part of. I was asked to be a guest speaker at the show regarding floral and event design, and boy was I excited. This year marked my second year anniversary so I was feeling pretty comfortable with the crowd. Until of course, over 140 brides and their loved ones arrived at my first class. What an incredible surprise considering last years attendance. Here I am facing all these spectacular couples staring at me thinking, “why in the world should I trust this lady with the most important day of my life?” We love design…floral… and all things wedding. At the end of the day, we strive to fulfill the dream of every Modern Day bride. In our own world of madness, it’s worth it to trust. I promise.

You’re invited to The Grand Affair

The Amway Grand Plaza is hosting West Michigan’s premier bridal event, March 4 from noon to 4pm, and we’d love to extend an invitation to all of you. It’s a free event and all of the area’s best wedding vendors will be there to talk about planning the ultimate wedding. Enjoy sample cakes and hors d’oeuvres while chatting with all the wedding experts.

Don’t forget to sign up for Wedding 101 to learn everything you need to know about planning a wedding. I will be teaching one of the classes on floral and event design. We encourage all brides to come and be inspired for your big day. We will be talking about how to add personal style to your wedding day through beautiful linens, florals, paper, rentals, and much more! See photos below from the class I taught last year. The idea is simple. Find someone you love, get engaged and start wedding planning…the end. Oh wait, we forgot the wedding and the living happily ever after. Truth is, although we aren’t the ones falling in love and getting married, we equally adore every event we are part of. Over and over again we fall head over heels in love with making visions become reality. There is nothing we love more than this process and we are so lucky to be able to share our favorite things with you today, and every day.

On a day all about love, what better way to start off the morning than with this floral number that we just L.O.V.E. If there is one thing we appreciate as much as floral design, it’s beautifully photographed floral design. We put this bundle of bliss together for a table design shoot that the fabulous Karyn May captured for us. Sending lots of hugs your way and wishing you a day filled with love and happiness with people and/or things that make you happy.

Top 7 floral trends-we’ve got it covered. From unusual bouquets to fun patterns, we put our best foot forward and it sure paid off.

We are so thrilled to be featured in Huffington Post’s “What’s Hot” article this week. It is such an amazing feeling to wake up and see news like this. It makes all the long, hard days worthwhile. We had so much fun on each of the events featured. Scroll to the bottom of the article to see photos of our trend-worthy work. We love working with Jen Lynne Photography and she did a fabulous job, as always, capturing these beautiful images. Bouquet inspiration came from Jen herself and all of the florals used for the bouquet were hand-picked from her backyard. A big shout out to Rue for crafting this amazing piece of art.

The images of the rooftop event at The Amway Grand Plaza bring back lots of memories. It was an unforgettable event and we had so much fun putting it together. Oh, what a year it has been

They say it’s not the years in the life but the life in the years. I can honestly say that this journey we have been on has been one crazy ride. We have experienced many highs and lows during our five and a half years in business and I wouldn’t trade any of them. This baby of mine started as dirt in a pot and boy have we bloomed. It is truly amazing how far MDF has come and we aren’t done! There are so many exciting things in the works I can barely contain my excitement. Okay, okay, I know it’s not nice to keep secrets-but I promise this is worth the wait.

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing several of our 2011 events. We have had the pleasure of working on a number of incredible events ranging in style from beautifully simple garden weddings to lush over-the-top affairs. We look back on these events and cherish the memories made while making visions become reality. Each of our clients are so unique in their own lovely way and it is so important that we go above and beyond to make their events even better than they imagined.

It’s no secret that we love weddings, and let’s be honest, there is no better feeling than seeing our beautiful couples swoon over their wedding florals. We were able to get our hands on some photos showcasing a few of our 2011 events so we thought we’d give you all a little sneak peak…

Amway Grand Plaza wedding

As I reflect on the incredible year we’ve had, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. To spend the day doing exactly what you love is a gift but to do that for gracious clients is a blessing.

Anne from Inspiration Video did a wonderful job capturing Lindsey and Patrick’s beautiful day. I spent nearly a year planning this wedding with Lindsey and her mother, Diane. From the clients to the magnificent ballroom this wedding was nothing short of spectacular. Next week Jen Kroll will be sending me all of the scrumptious detail shots which will undoubtedly exceed my expectations. Our New Space, continued…

Here you have it, our brand spankin’ new consultation space. I’ve always felt strongly that our clients deserve a quiet, inspirational space where they receive our undivided attention when meeting with us. My goal is to create an amazing experience for them from the moment they walk through our doors. Here at MDF we are all about the tiny details and this space certainly conveys that message. We want people to feel comfortable and confident when meeting with us and leave knowing that they are in good hands. I love this new space for so many reasons I can’t wait to share it with you.

Take a look at this bad boy before we got our hands on it. It’s hard to believe the space once looked like this.

We gave the consult room a major face lift to get it into tip-top shape and were thrilled that we had so much space to work with. I was able to display my absolute favorite wingback chairs and sofa along with my treasured antique buffet, and we can still see the carpet!

My second favorite color palette coming right up! We chose to feature our branding colors in the consultation space. Nothing says Modern Day Floral better than a black, white and green color combination.

Our roomy consultation space allows us to keep our resources in order and at the tip of our fingers. Full linen samples and books, invitation samples, floral design books, pantone books and a swoon-worthy collection of bridal magazines are just among the few creative assets we have readily available for clients.

This 8-foot projector will be used to share life size images of our work with prospective clients. My loving husband a/k/a Mr. Wonderful gets all the credit for this savvy addition. Thanks David!!

Thanks for letting us indulge a little. It’s been fun looking back on all of the progress we’ve made. We still have a long way to go to make it absolutely perfect but we feel so blessed to call this place home!
