Wedding Recap: Jill and Chris Part II

Time to get a little personal! Jill wore a gorgeous, shapely Rivini wedding gown and her bridesmaids wore Vera Wang.

Rather than carrying a fresh bouquet, Jill brought in another vintage element by having a fabric flower bouquet. All of the sweet bouquets and bouts were purchased on an etsy shop, Milkpod Studio, and they were absolutely adorable. Jill loved the unique textures the bouquet brought to the overall look of her wedding!

What a sassy picture and by far my favorite shot of Jill!!! You look maaaah-velous darling!!

The sweet little flower girl and ring bearer carried a pillow and purse custom made by Handbags by Jen and Jodi! So adorable!!!

Wedding Recap: Jill and Chris Cascade Hills Country Club wedding part 1

Can you believe it’s October already? I’m completely blown away at how quickly the summer flew by but thankful for another stellar wedding season. Now that things are getting back to normal I look forward to sharing more on the blog.

This year we had the pleasure of designing flowers for several Modern Day Floral employees and alumnae. First up, the wedding of Jillian Telman and Chris Clark. Jillian, a.k.a Jill or Jilly, is an alumna of MDF and the assistant to the infamous Jodi Bos from In Any Event. I have had the pleasure of working on several events with these two talented women over the last few years. I’m sure Jill would admit that working in this industry has its advantages and disadvantages. As all good brides, Jill spent countless hours dreaming up her perfect day. She brought in oodles and oodles of pictures and even took the time to sketch out a few centerpiece ideas. Jilly’s favorite catch phrase was “Jenn, I want lots of big fluffy flowers.”

Thanks to Jen Kroll, we have incredible images to share this creative collaboration with you readers! However … there are far too many to share in just one post. Enjoy this first of several posts to follow!

Cascade Hills Country Club served as the perfect canvas for Jillian’s fuchsia and taupe color palette.

The head table design featured a graduated color palette of raspberry to medium and soft pink to white flowers. We used a mixture of lush hydrangea, peony, sweet peas, garden roses, lisianthus, ranunculus and cymbidium orchids to bring this lush beauty to life.

Jill and Jodi spent hours hunting down the perfect pieces of milk glass to add as accent pieces to the head table.

I love this image of the foyer design featured on the fuchsia ribbon taffeta linen. Great shot Jen!

How much do you love Jill’s vintage inspired table numbers which were handmade from antique buttons? This girl was working hard all night the week of her wedding. The things we do to make it perfect!! Beautiful work Jilly, beautiful work!! Event Recap: Engagement Party at Meijer Gardens

Last month, we worked alongside a beautiful bride-to-be and her mother to design a homespun engagement party located at the Michigan’s Farm Garden. This well-kept secret is a three-quarters replica of the home that Lena Meijers grew up in as a child. The home had all the sweet touches you would expect–an adorable red barn, a gorgeous garden, farm animals represented by bronze sculptures and a perfectly appointed farm house in butter yellow, of course. The setting was straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

The beautiful gardens surrounding the property served as our design inspiration for the material and colors used in the florals. Garden roses in shades of pink, coral and butter yellow coupled with several fantastic complimentary materials brought this country-style engagement party to life.

For those of you who have yet to visit Frederik Meijer Gardens, I would strongly recommend you take time to visit this absolutely stunning location. They not only host weddings and events, they host outdoor concerts, an annual butterfly exhibit and the gardens and sculpture park are truly spectacular. And now through September, Frederik Meijer Gardens is hosting a stellar collection of Chihully pieces. Thanks to Chaparral Shimko, the event coordinator, I was given a private tour during our event design meeting. I couldn’t help but leave feeling awe-inspired and creatively recharged.

Wedding Recap: Jenna and Marcus

Last fall we participated in a fun wedding package giveaway during the premiere of Mama Mia at DeVos hall. Congrats to our lucky winners, Jenna and Marcus!! Best of luck on your journey and thank you for allowing us to be a part of your big day.

Wedding Recap: Amanda and Alex

Amanda and Alex were married last May. We had the honor of designing a very bright spring wedding for such a bright and cheerful couple. Amanda’s European hand-tied bouquet was a collection of hot pink gerbera daises, mini green hypericum and soft peony. Alex wore a hot pink spray rose with loops of greens. The reception was held at Till Midnight in Holland.

Thank you Kate for all of the fantastic images. Congratulations Amanda and Alex! May the two of you have a long and happy life together!

BIRTH FLOWER OF THE MONTH: July…"The Waterlily"

Happy Birthday July Babies!

With the warm summer weather finally here, we’re able to swim, boat and see the beautiful lake flower known as the water lily!

The water lily is found throughout the world and is also known as a lotus. If anyone shops at Pier 1, it is something you see all over their Asian decor! In many countries within Asia, the meaning of a Lotus or water lily bloom is rebirth or awakening to the spiritual/religious reality of life.

This flower also can resemble someone who has been able to overcome a difficult obstacle in their life. The story behind this “personal/floral” growth goes like this: Water lilies roots are deep within the soil below the water line and begin at the bottom of a muddy, murky lake. They rise through the water and once they have reached the surface, bloom into an absolutely beautiful flower… talk about feeling motivated and uplifted!

The above two images are from our sassy guest blogger Alishan’s wedding last June. We used over 700 peony to create her lush bouquets and centerpieces. We loved this bride so much she has become our “Dear Abby” for our brides. :) Who better to offer advice than a bride who planned for nearly 2 years long distance!

In November we designed a spectacular event and rather than throw all the lovelies away we recreated hand-tied bouquets…95 to be exact! We spent over 2 days redesigning and delivering to area nursing homes. Thanks to the generosity of our client, we were able to pay it forward.
